The Area Agency on Aging office in Newport is the community's
connection to elder services in Orleans and No. Essex counties.
Services include information and assistance, health benefits counseling,
Senior Companions and Neighbor to Neighbor Corps, advocacy and case
management, mental health programs, caregiver support, legal services,
nutrition programs, transportation, connection to housing and other
in-home services,etc.

Adjustment Assistance, DET
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is a federal progam which offers
help to workers who lost their jobs or whose hours of work and wages
are reduced as a result of increased imports. TAA may provide reemployment
services, retraining, job search allowances, relocation allowances
and trade readjustment allowances to eligible workers (TRA).

•MedQuest
MedQuest is a program of the Northeastern Vermont Area Health Education
Center. The program serves up to 40 Vermont 9th and 10th graders
each summer from our service region of Caledonia, Essex, Lamoille,
Orange, Orleans and Washington counties. MedQuest is a one-week
residential health career exploration program that takes place at
Johnson State College and Lyndon State College. Participants have
the opportunity to job shadow health care professionals, receive
CPR certification, first aid training and attend a variety of presentations
related to health careers and personal and professional development.
First year medical students from UVM staff the programs. Program
participants are nominated by their high schools to attend.

NEKCA provides a variety of direct program activities, referrals,
advocacy, and education in a non-judgmental manner to more than
6,000 moderate- to low-income familes in communities of the Northeast
Kingdom. NEKCA has its main administrative offices in Newport and
St. Johnsbury, and program sites throughout Caledonia, Orleans and
Essex counties.

Science (All Kids Are Scientists)
Science is a key foundation for a career in health care. Studies
show that children, particularly girls, begin to lose interest in
science by the third grade. aka Science is a program for children
in grades K-6 that is designed to encourage and enhance interest
in science through hands on activities using every day common materials.
Each session is eight hours and set up as an after school program.
Training is free to your organization but kit costs apply. Please
call for more information. Northeastern VT AHEC serves Caledonia,
Essex, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans, and Washington Counties.

- Micro Business Development Program
MBDP offers free services to income eligible Vermont who are small
business owners or prospective business owners. Our service area
includes Orleans, Essex and Caledonia counties, as well as some
adjoining towns. Technical assistance for start-up and existing
micro enterprises consists of a combination of one-on-one counseling,
support networking, and classroom training.
